About the Project
- A young couple recently moved into a Herndon neighborhood home with plans to maximize their use of the backyard
- A raggedy old deck on the high side of the backyard and lots of trees and dirt was a very unsightly
- They wanted to have a full‐scale screen porch, full-size deck, outdoor kitchen, second story deck with wrap-around seating, a fire pit, a large lower‐level patio, and more. It was a tall order to fill, but we got their plan developed, and they loved it. They couldn’t wait to have this space.
- Major lot clearing and excavation started to reach into the designed plan
- We had to bring in a heavy gas line from the street to accommodate large-scale appliances that were planned for this outdoor kitchen.
- To name a few commercial grade appliances in this project, we have a 6000lb pizza oven, 42” gas grill, 20” burner, beverage center, outdoor sink, gas fireplace, gas fire pit, and so on.
- Starting from the lower level, we have compacted the ground and laid concrete for a large‐scale flagstone covered patio. The lit seating walls and a wood burning fire pit were all covered in complimentary veneer stone.
- There’s a lead walkway connecting to stairs of middle level deck
- We added a storage space with concrete pad under the covered screen porch
- We laid bigger river rock stones under the deck and surrounding spaces
- The lead stairs take you to an octagonal deck space wrapped around in built-in benches and a gas burning fire pit. It’s ideal for those cold fall nights, roasting marshmallows or having a cold one (whichever feels better).
- Going up another six steps, we are now in the main deck area with a middle seating island with a sink and beverage center wrapped with ledgestone and covered with a glamorous granite top. To the left of it, there is a 16-ft outdoor kitchen that has a pizza oven, a large‐ scale grill, cooker, burner and so on.
- All the kitchenette area was wrapped with ledgestone that was used to wrap the chimney.
- Decks were covered with multi-color Trex decking and wrapped with a dark color border.
- New 16’x16’ screen porch was built just outside of the French door coming off the family room.
- Our outdoor remodel features porcelain floor tiles, a linear gas fireplace covered in ledgestone, a beaded stain grade ceiling, a big ass ceiling fan, and lots of light. It has glorified this living space.
- The clop sable easy breeze window panels make this living space suitable for all seasons.
- Coming from an old Italian family background, having their own pizza oven and outdoor kitchen means the world to them.
- They are living it up, and hearing from their family and friends during gatherings that this outdoor space is the jewel of their neighborhood.
